Pushing Success Means Making Sacrifices

If you’re just starting out in your business, you know you need to make some sacrifices and invest in more important things. Doing a side hustle is tough especially when you also have to work to increase your monthly income. If you’re a newbie in the business like me, you may find it hard to say no to some things that won’t matter in the next 5 years. Someone told me recently that I should not chase after money or financial independence too much because it will come naturally. I’m not after the money. Money is just a number and can be printed by banks. I’m after the freedom and life of having financial independence could bring. I do think there is nothing wrong with aiming success in life. Now, I understand the concept where at some point, you need to relax and have some fun. However, if the “fun” thing feels uncomfortable and will force you to spend more, it’s not worth doing it. All it will cause you is to worry about where you’re going to get that money spent back to your pocket again if it’s already gone. It’s not going to make you feel relaxed since it will actually do the opposite. I don’t agree with taking things slow and just let the world do its miracle. The world won’t provide you that if you don’t hustle. Yes, I get frustrated sometimes but we all do and it’s normal. All of us feel that way whenever we’re not able to meet our expectations. If you’re someone who’s just starting and doesn’t have the budget to spend yet for a nice vacation, then you have to say no at least for now. Remember and understand that your situation today, juggling a side hustle and a normal job, will eventually pay off.  I’ve learned that in order to manage your small business, you need to make sacrifices and invest in money-making stuff. Here are some of the simple things I have sacrificed so far: These are a few things I have invested in: Right now, I’m finding ways to inject some fun in my journey without spending too much. Knowing your priorities is necessary. After all, we are different and the direction and method that I used may not be applicable to others, but the bottomline is, you have to navigate what you can do and what system works for you. If you need help, then hire someone. At the end of the day, you cannot do everything by yourself. It’s okay to run your business by yourself but it’s much more easier to have 1 or more people to help you as well. >> Speaking of letting other people to help you, I offer my Virtual assistance services to help you out so you can focus on growing your business. Get in touch with me here. Going back… The key factors to consider making sacrifices and investments are: Be wise enough to say No to the things that will not benefit you in the long run, and say Yes to those that will. Before I end this post, I leave you with this inspiring quote below: Push yourself because no one is going to do it for you.

How to be really good in English if you’re a non-English speaker (like me)

Whether you like it or not, English is a universal language. If you’re a non-English speaker like me, it’s quite hard to be well-versed in it if the people around you don’t converse in the language. Here in the Philippines, being able to speak English fluently is highly regarded and is considered a skill necessary to get hired for certain jobs. So if you’re ready to brush up your English language skills, just read on. I’ve made a list of certain strategies that worked for me in the past, and I’m sure these will help you be really good in English in no time. Be very interested in learning the language.  If you really want to be fluent in the English language, you need to have the passion that drives you to learn it. It is important that you do something that’s within your interest you won’t get bored and eventually stop. Learning any kind of skill starts with being passionately curious about it. Immerse yourself into reading anything.  Just be sure it’s the topic that interests you most. In today’s modern world with advanced technology surrounding us, there are a lot of ways to learn a particular skill. You may choose to read books or download e-books on your smartphone to help you become more comfortable with the language. I love reading novels and self-help books and my interest in reading about them helped me become more comfortable with it. Write down unfamiliar words.  List down unfamiliar words and find their meaning and practice using them in sentences. I do this a lot of times before. I was out of school for a year and there was nothing much to do at home so I read a lot and list down words that are unfamiliar to me. Try to list one or two unfamiliar words a day and use them in sentences. Don’t just write one sentence for each word but at least try to make 5-10 sentences. Once you encounter those words again, it should now be easier for you to understand. Plus points in gaining that confidence as well! Watch and listen. Watch and listen to English TV shows, movies, and radio stations. If you’re really serious about being fluent in English, you have to observe how native speakers speak their own language. Do this every day and any time of the day. Expose yourself to how it’s being used and you’ll be surprised how fun it is to emulate their accent. There are a lot of music streaming services that have podcasts to listen to that can enhance your ability to think in English too. Practice makes perfect.  Whether you’re alone, with someone, in school (if you’re still a student), or somewhere you’re comfortable, try to speak in English. You’ll lose nothing if you do so anyway. As for me, I’m much more comfortable speaking to myself alone ??. I know it’s kind of weird but I do this all the time. Be confident in speaking the language especially if you’re speaking in front of many people. This is a great practice ground for you and there’s nothing to be scared about. Admit that it’s not your mother tongue so you’re not expected to speak it fluently. Forget about the haters and bashers. Write a diary or journal. This is the best and most therapeutic type of activity for me. Believe it or not, journaling helps not only to relieve your stress but also helps to hone your writing skill. Speaking the language is great because you’re able to hear yourself and build your confidence but writing fuels your creativity. The more you write in English, the more you see improvements in your writing. You’re able to edit, proofread and perfect your writing unlike speaking where there’s no chance to edit what you just said. Writing shows how articulate you are in using the language. So don’t disregard writing in English. Try to incorporate reading, watching, listening, speaking, and writing in English all at the same time in your daily habit. Don’t be anxious about the grammar. Forget about perfecting your grammar at first as this will just come out naturally in the long run. Being conscious about grammar doesn’t let you express yourself which is what the original purpose of writing is. There’s nothing wrong with being sensitive with grammar but I suggest not to mind about it first, especially when writing in your journal or diary. This will let you pour your heart out in your writing. Anytime when you’re done, you can always proofread what you’ve written and that’s the time you can allow yourself to make it more grammar friendly. Be positive and don’t be hard on yourself.  It only takes focus and determination to be good at any skill. Learning a language is not an exception. You won’t be good at it at first. Admit it. But as long as you keep doing these steps, you’re certainly gonna be more confident in speaking and writing in English. Repeat steps 2 – 8 and don’t stop. You’ll soon realize how fun it is to learn this language and be able to apply it.

Five most comforting TV shows to watch this pandemic

It’s been more than a year since the dreaded pandemic took place and we’re still not used to being confined and isolated in our house. I know how you feel. With negative things happening in our world today, it’s understandable to feel frustrated, not knowing when we can go out without any restrictions. The best we can do right now is to accept what’s going on and watch some good shows to help us focus on the brighter side of life. As a millennial, I want to de-stress and be comforted. So I made a list of the five most comforting TV shows that I like and that we all can enjoy: 1.) The Chosen – Available on Youtube and The Chosen app for free The Chosen is a historical TV series depicting the life of Jesus Christ through the eyes of those who knew him. Directed by Dallas Jenkins, the series is currently amassing millions of viewers and fans around the world. Though we already knew the story of Jesus from the Bible, the portrayal of the characters is very realistic to the point that people can easily relate. 2.) God Friended Me – Available on Amazon Prime God Friended Me is a TV show centered around a guy named Miles Finer. Miles, who’s a podcaster, explicitly expressed his disbelief in God. One day, he received a friend request on a social networking site from a person named God. From there, his life started to change. 3.) 7th Heaven – Available on Hulu Oldies but goodies! If you are a 90s kid, you must have heard of this show a million times. The series follows the Camden family throughout its 11 seasons. The story revolves around a minister dad and a stay-at-home mom navigating through life while dealing with their seven children. What’s interesting about this show is how they navigated the realities of family life while helping other people. It’s nostalgic, and morally inclined, and it allows its viewers to reflect and do better with their own lives. 4.) The Good Place – Available on Netflix Have you ever wondered where your soul is going to be after you die? What a creepy question, isn’t it? This series is about Eleanor, a deceased woman who lived a morally corrupt life and somehow found herself in the Good Place (heaven-like place). She knew it was a mistaken identity that she was there so, she tries to hide her past to stay in the Good Place. 5.) When Calls the Heart – Available on Amazon Prime and Netflix Set in Western Canada, the series follows the story of Elizabeth Thatcher, a young teacher from a high-society family who was assigned to teach in a coal-mining town. Being in Coal Valley to teach young minds has been challenging for her due to their simple lifestyle. Since the people there recently faced a tragedy, Elizabeth wanted to help as long as she could. I hope you found some good shows to binge on while staying at home. What other wholesome tv shows do you know? Let me know in the comments section.
